Zanesville Man Pleads Guilty to Possessing Illegal Firearms

Fully Automatic Guns, Firearms Without Serial Numbers

April 6, 2010 - COLUMBUS — Terry Thompson, 61, of Zanesville, pleaded guilty in United States District Court here today to possessing eight illegal firearms, including five fully automatic firearms and three short-barreled firearms without serial numbers.

Carter M. Stewart, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, and Christopher Sadowski, Special Agent in Charge, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), announced the plea entered today before U.S. District Judge Algenon L. Marbley.

Thompson pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of illegal firearms. Each count is punishable by up to ten years imprisonment. He also agreed to forfeit the weapons.

According to court documents, ATF agents seized the illegal weapons while executing a search warrant of Thompson’s property near Zanesville in June, 2008.

Stewart commended the investigation of by ATF agents, and Assistant U.S. Attorney David Bosley, who is prosecuting the case.
