Ex-Stoughton Police Officer Sentenced After Pleading Guilty to Making False Statements


April 8, 2010 - BOSTON, MA—A former Stoughton police officer who recently pled guilty in federal court to making false statements to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), was sentenced today to three years’ probation and fined $3,000.

United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and Warren T. Bamford, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation - Boston Field Division, announced that ARLINDO ROMEIRO, 37, of Stoughton, Massachusetts who resigned from the Stoughton Police Department, was sentenced today for making false statements and representations to the FBI regarding an ongoing public corruption investigation. The Information alleged that ROMEIRO made these false statements and representations during the course of an interview on July 13, 2009. In imposing the sentence, the Honorable Patti B. Saris credited ROMEIRO’s cooperation with federal authorities in their ongoing probe of corruption of police corruption in Stoughton, Massachusetts

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian T. Kelly, Chief of Ortiz’s Public Corruption Unit.
