Alexandria, VA - A fugitive on the run from federal drug
charges since the late 1980’s has been tracked down. Humberto Bonilla, 68, was
arrested by the U.S. Marshals in New Jersey earlier this month. Bonilla, also
known as Humberto Reyes, had an outstanding warrant in connection to federal
charges out of Virginia.
On April 14, 1987, a federal arrest warrant was issued out
of Alexandria, Virginia, charging Bonilla with failing to appear on charges of
possession with intent to distribute marijuana. A fugitive investigation was
then launched for the Colombian national, which spanned several states.
Earlier this year, U.S. Marshals developed information that
Bonilla may be living in New Jersey, and follow-up investigation was conducted.
On July 18, 2017, Deputy Marshals in New Jersey made contact with the man they
believed to be Humberto Bonilla, who denied that he was the Humberto Bonilla
wanted since the 1980’s. Deputy Marshals fingerprinted Bonilla on the spot and
confirmed his true identity, ending a thirty-year fugitive investigation.
