Fugitive Task Force Arrests Two Suspected Child Molesters



York, PA - Today, United States Marshal Martin J. Pane announced the arrest of Zachary Smith, 41, in Mechanicsburg, Pa and Christopher Martin, 29, in York.

On September 26, 2016, the Newberry Township Police Department obtained an arrest warrant charging Smith with criminal attempt statutory sexual assault, criminal attempt indecent sexual intercourse person less than 16, aggravated indecent assault, and indecent assault of person less than 16, corruption of minors and use/possession of drugs. It is alleged that on July 12, 2015, Smith physically assaulted and restrained his victim while he committed sexual acts.

On September 30, U.S. Marshals Fugtive Task Force located and arrested Smith without incident in the 100 block of Winston Drive in Mechanicsburg. Smith was turned over to local authorities pending further judicial proceedings.

On September 26, 2016 the York Area Regional Police Department obtained an arrest warrant charging Martin with indecent assault of person less than 13 and corruption of minors. It is alleged that Martin touched his victim inappropriately on multiple occasions. Today, the U.S. Marshals Fugitve Task Force located and arrested Martin without incident in the area of East Market Street in York City. Martin was turned over to local authorities pending further criminal proceedings.

United States Marshal Martin J. Pane stated, “Our society demands alleged sexual abuse of children be promptly investigated. The U.S. Marshals Service and our fugitive task force partners help to ensure those persons accused of these crimes are promptly brought before the courts to answer for such charges. It is my sincere hope these arrests bring some measure of comfort to the victims and their families.”

The USMS worked jointly on both investigations with personnel from the Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, York City Police Department, York County Sheriff’s Office, York County Districts Attorney Office and the Harrisburg Bureau of Police.
