Alaskan Fugitive Tracked Down In Texas

Fifth Suspect Arrested In Home Invasion Death

San Antonio, TX - Yurel Allen Nichols, 18, was arrested yesterday by members of the United States Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF) in Converse, TX. Arrest warrants were issued pursuant to an investigation by the Anchorage Police Department (APD) in Alaska, after Nichols was indicted on charges of first degree murder, second degree murder, and robbery.

Yesterday, members of the LSFTF were contacted by members of the Pacific Northwest Violent Offenders Task Force (PNVOTF) to assist in searching for Nichols. Members of the LSFTF immediately initiated an investigation in locating and apprehending Nichols. Through investigative efforts and extensive surveillance, task force officers observed Nichols in the parking lot of an apartment complex located in the 700 block of Station Street in Converse, TX. Task force officers approached Nichols, identified themselves, and took him into custody without incident.

On September 22, 2016, Nichols and four accomplices allegedly killed a woman during a home invasion located in the 5600 block of Alora Loop, on the east side of Anchorage. Reports stated that the victim was shot moments after opening her front door. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and days later succumbed to her injuries. After a thorough investigation by APD Homicide detectives, warrants were issued for all five suspects. Four of the teens were arrested days later, but Nichols remained a fugitive at large until his arrest yesterday.

Nichols is currently being held in custody at the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office awaiting extradition back to Anchorage.

David Sligh, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas, stated, “As soon as our assistance was requested, our task force officers immediately formulated a plan to locate and arrest Nichols. Due to the collaborative efforts of all the officers involved, Nichols will finally face the charges against him along with the other suspects in this case.”
