ATF Offers Reward in Commercial Structure Fire


ATF, Detroit Fire Department seek information in Mattress Wholesale fire

DETROIT — The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Detroit Field Division in conjunction with the Detroit Fire Department, Arson Task Force, announced today they are offering a reward of up to $3,000 for any information regarding the commercial fire of Mattress Wholesale that may lead to the arrest and conviction of any person or persons involved with this fire.

On Oct. 21, at approximately 7:10 a.m., a 911 call reported a fully engulfed business identified as Mattress Wholesale, located at 4242 E., 8-mile Rd., in Detroit. ATF special agent Certified Fire Investigators (CFIs) from the Detroit Field Division Arson and Explosives group responded to the scene to conduct an initial scene assessment following suppression of the fire. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

The initial examination revealed video footage of four individuals in the location prior to the fire being reported.  The investigation will continue as ATF CFIs conduct an origin and cause determination and follow up on leads. The estimated loss is $2 million.
