Saint Marys, Georgia - The U. S. Marshals Service Southeast
Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF) of Savannah, Georgia and the Camden
County Sheriff’s Office located and arrested fugitive Gerald L. Warren this
morning at an apartment complex in Saint Marys, Georgia. Warren was being
sought by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Orlando, Florida on a bench
warrant on the alleged charges of Sexual Battery of a Child (3 counts),
Attempted Sexual Battery with a Child, Sexual Activity with a Child, and
Incest. After an extensive fugitive investigation in Florida, Orange County
authorities and U. S. Marshals determined that Warren had fled to Georgia.
The U. S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force in
Savannah, Georgia was contacted with this information by Florida authorities.
On February 23, 2015, SERFTF established surveillance on a residence in Saint
Marys, Georgia. SERFTF personnel surrounded the house and knocked on the door.
A male voice answered after the knock, and SERFTF personnel said it was the police.
After a few minutes, the male voice was replaced by a female at the door. The
female acknowledged that Warren was somewhere in the residence. SERFTF
personnel conducted a protective sweep of the building and found Warren behind
a bathroom door.
Warren was taken into custody without further incident and
transported to the Camden County Jail to await extradition proceedings to
Florida. Warren has an extensive criminal history to include arrests for
Robbery, Burglary/Larceny, Weapons, Rape, Narcotics, Escape, and other
miscellaneous offenses. In all, he has over 30 arrests on his criminal history.
Since its inception in 2003, investigations carried out by
the SERFTF have resulted in the apprehension of more than 20,000 violent
fugitives in the state of Georgia. Of these arrests, more than 1,100 were
fugitives wanted for homicide. The successful initiative is led by the U.S.
Marshals Service and combines federal, state and local law enforcement
agencies.
The SERFTF has offices in Atlanta, Macon, and Savannah that
cover the entire state of Georgia. The task force objective is to seek out and
arrest fugitives charged with violent crimes, gang members, sex offenders, and
other felonies. In 2013, U.S. Marshals led task forces arrested more than
90,000 state and local fugitives on felony charges.
