CBP Officers at Texas Crossing Seize Cocaine

Del Rio, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Del Rio, Texas yesterday seized more than $300,000 worth of cocaine hidden in a passenger vehicle.

On Thursday afternoon, CBP officers working at the Amistad Dam international crossing inspected a 2004 Acura driven by a 52-year-old Austin woman and referred the vehicle for secondary inspection. Upon close inspection, officers discovered 11.26 pounds of cocaine, valued at $360,448, hidden within the engine area of the vehicle.

The suspect and cocaine were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

“Smugglers continue to try innovative methods to get their contraband into the United States,” said Michael Perez, CBP Port Director, Del Rio. “This seizure is another example of officer training and experience prevailing over smugglers’ best efforts.”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
