Texas CBP Officers Seize Nearly $800,000 in Cocaine

Hidalgo, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge seized approximately 24.7 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of close to $800,000.

On May 2, CBP officers working at the Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge came in contact with a northbound 2000 Ford F-250 pickup truck and its driver, a 27-year-old Mexican citizen from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The male driver and vehicle were referred to secondary for further inspection. In secondary, officers seized 12 packages of alleged cocaine that were found hidden inside the F-250’s truck batteries.

CBP officers seized the Ford truck and transferred the driver to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation.

“As of today, this is the second cocaine load seized by our frontline officers at the Hidalgo port of entry. I commend our cadre of officers for their roles in seizing this significant amount of cocaine that was found hidden in the truck’s batteries,” said Hector A. Mancha, CBP Port Director, Hidalgo/Pharr.
