Martinsburg, WV - The U.S. Marshals Mountain State
Fugitive Task Force, with the assistance of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s
Department, arrested Tito Arita Cruz, 29, of Williamsport, Maryland, Wednesday.
Cruz had been charged by the West Virginia State Police with
four counts of sexual assault of a minor in Berkeley County. The Marshals task
force was asked to assist in locating and arresting Cruz.
On Wednesday, a deputy U.S. marshal observed Cruz operating
a blue Ford F-150 pickup truck and followed him south on Interstate 81. With
the assistance of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department, a traffic stop was
conducted around the 12 mile marker in West Virginia. Cruz was arrested without
incident and taken into custody by the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department.
The Mountain State Fugitive Task Force is a U.S. Marshals
Service-led fugitive task force whose primary mission is to help make the
community safer by locating and capturing fugitives charged with murders,
robberies, drug crimes, sexual assaults and other violent felony offenses.
