The nomination period for the Bureau
of Justice Assistance's Medal of Valor is open. The award recognizes the
valiant acts performed in the line of duty by federal, state, local, and tribal
law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency service officers. The
medal is awarded annually to public safety officers who have exhibited
exceptional courage, regardless of personal safety, in the attempt to save or
protect human life. Nominations will be accepted through July 31, 2017. For
