United States Attorney Laura E. Duffy announced that Robert McGill pled guilty today to second degree murder before United States District Judge Irma E. Gonzalez in federal court in San Diego.
As acknowledged in his guilty plea, McGill admitted that on July 14, 2009, he deliberately and intentionally killed his wife, Shirley McGill, aboard the Carnival Cruise Lines Elation cruise ship. McGill has been in custody since his arrest by agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation on July 16, 2009.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled to be held on November 8, 2011, at 9:00 a.m., before Judge Gonzalez.
This case is the product of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
