On April 11, 2011, at approximately 11:13 a.m., the Sterling Bank branch located at 14185 Highway 13 South in Savage, Minnesota, was robbed by a lone masked man. The robber came into the bank lobby and displayed a handgun that he held in a clear plastic bag. A bank manager and a teller were the only people in the bank at the time of the robbery. The robber told the manager to sit down. The robber then made a verbal demand to the teller for money. The teller complied and provided the robber with an undisclosed amount of money. The robber then left the bank on foot heading in an eastbound direction. No getaway vehicle was observed. No one was injured in the robbery.
The robber is described as a white male, between 5’10” and 6’ tall, and with a medium build. He wore a black fleece and nylon jacket, blue jeans, black gloves, a black mask, and white sneakers. It is believed that the robber is not the same individual who robbed the M&I Bank branch in Edina earlier this morning. However, it is possible that the robber has committed other bank robberies in this area. No bank surveillance camera pictures are available at this time.
Richard T. Thornton, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Minneapolis Office of the FBI, requests that anyone with information regarding this bank robbery contact the Savage Police Department at 952/882-2600, the Minneapolis FBI Office at 612-376-3200, or Crime Stoppers at 800/222-8477.
