Texas CBP Officers Seize Approximately 25 Pounds of Cocaine

Hidalgo, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge seized approximately 25 pounds of cocaine yesterday afternoon. The estimated street value of the cocaine is $805,649.

On April 11, CBP officers working at the Hidalgo/Reynosa International Bridge came in contact with a northbound 2003 Volkswagen Sharan minivan and its driver, a 23-year-old Mexican citizen from Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico. After the initial primary inspection, a CBP officer referred the driver and vehicle to secondary for further inspection. In secondary, officers seized 10 packages of alleged cocaine that were found within the vehicle’s dashboard area. CBP officers also seized the vehicle.

The male traveler was transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation.

Hector A. Mancha, CBP Port Director, Hidalgo-Pharr said, “Our frontline officers continue doing great enforcement work and I commend them for a job well done.” Mancha further said, “Our officers remain focused, vigilant and continue working hard to prevent this type of contraband from entering our country.”
