At sentencing Potts asked Judge Crabb for leniency, but because of his extensive and violent criminal history, Judge Crabb stated that it was long past when Potts should get another chance and that it was the community’s turn to be safe from him because he is a predator.
Potts committed this armed robbery with co–defendant Christopher Singleman. On March 16, 2011 , Judge Crabb sentenced Singleman to 22 years in prison.
The charge against Potts was the result of an investigation conducted by the Madison Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rita M. Rumbelow.
