Ventor City Man Sentenced to 46 Months in Prison for Robbing Two Banks in Two Weeks


CAMDEN, NJ—A Ventnor City, New Jersey man was sentenced today to 46 month in prison for robbing Ocean City Home Bank in Margate, New Jersey on July 23, 2010, and The Bank in Absecon, New Jersey on August 5, 2010, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.

William F. Plyler, III, 33, previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Joseph E. Irenas to an information charging him with two counts of bank robbery. Judge Irenas imposed the sentence today in Camden federal court.

According documents filed in this case and statements made in court:

Plyler walked into each bank, approached the teller counter, and pointed his finger at a teller as he demanded money. The tellers at each bank gave Plyler the money from their top drawers before he fled on foot.

In addition to the prison term, Judge Irenas sentenced Plyler to three years of supervised released and ordered him to pay $6,695 in restitution.

U.S. Attorney Fishman credited special agents of the FBI, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Michael B. Ward in Newark; the New Jersey State Police, under the direction of Col. Rick Fuentes; Margate City Police Department; and the Absecon Police Department for the investigation leading to today’s sentence.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacqueline M. Carle of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Camden.
