Baltimore Man Exiled to Over 12 Years in Prison for Armed Robbery

BALTIMORE—U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz sentenced Matthew Eugene Talley, a/k/a “Bro Gene,” and “Gene,” age 46, of Baltimore, Maryland, today to 150 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for an armed commercial robbery. Talley pleaded guilty on May 4, 2012, to the robbery and to brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Rod J. Rosenstein; Special Agent in Charge Richard A. McFeely of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Commissioner Frederick H. Bealefeld, III of the Baltimore Police Department; and Chief James W. Johnson of the Baltimore County Police Department.

According to Talley’s plea agreement, on December 1, 2009, Talley and another individual entered an electronics store in the 7600 block of Harford Road in Baltimore. Talley and his co-conspirator waited until all the other customers had left the store and then brandished a pistol and ordered the employees to open the cages containing store merchandise. When the employees were unable to open the cages, Talley and his co-defendant locked the employees in a bathroom and forced open the cages with a broom handle. Talley and his co-conspirator stole several televisions, phones, and other electronic devices from the store.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the FBI, Baltimore Police Department, and Baltimore County Police Department for their work in this investigation and thanked Assistant United States Attorneys Clinton J. Fuchs and James T. Wallner, who prosecuted the case.
