BISMARCK—U.S. Attorney Timothy Q. Purdon
announced that on June 28, 2012, Jeremy Dwarf, 30, of Fort Yates, N.D., was
sentenced by U.S. District Judge Daniel L. Hovland on charges of assault with a
dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury. Dwarf pleaded
guilty to the charges on March 21, 2012.
Judge Hovland sentenced Dwarf to seven
years and eight months in federal prison, to be followed by three years’
supervised release. Dwarf was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the
Crime Victim’s Fund and to pay $267,106.59 in restitution.
On November 6, 2011, in Fort Yates,
Dwarf assaulted an adult male with a fence post, striking the victim numerous
times in the head. Once the victim fell to the ground, unconscious, Dwarf
continued to assault the victim by kicking him in the head and face. As a
result of the assault the victim suffered injuries that required immediate and
extensive medical attention.
The case was investigated by the Federal
Bureau of Investigation and Bureau of Indian Affairs—Standing Rock Agency.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Gary Delorme
prosecuted the case.
