Gila River Man Sentenced to 57 Months in Prison for Crime of Assault
PHOENIX—Spencer Ray Mix, 21, of Coolidge, Ariz., was sentenced on Feb., 13, 2012, by U.S. District Judge James A. Teilborg to 57 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. Mix pleaded guilty on Sept. 26, 2011, to assaulting the victim on the Gila River Indian Reservation. The assault occurred on May 28, 2011, when Mix became angry and intentionally beat, kicked, and stomped on the victim repeatedly while she lay on the ground.
The investigation in this case was conducted by the Gila River Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution was handled by Heather H. Belt, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix.
