CBP Officers At The Brownsville And Matamoros International Bridge Seize Cocaine Found Hidden In SUV

Brownsville, TX – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge seized approximately 19.3 pounds of cocaine Sunday afternoon. The estimated street value of the cocaine is $617,993.

On August 28, CBP officers working at the B & M Bridge came in contact with a northbound 2002 Mazda Tribute SUV and its driver, a 23-year-old Mexican citizen from Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. A CBP officer referred the female driver and vehicle to secondary for further inspection. In secondary, officers seized the alleged cocaine that was found hidden within the vehicle’s front bumper. The Mazda Tribute was seized by CBP.

The female traveler was transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement –Homeland Security Investigations for further investigation.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security charged with the management, control and protection of our nation's borders at and between the official ports of entry. CBP is charged with keeping terrorists and terrorist weapons out of the country while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws.
