Scranton, PA – Today, U.S. Marshal Martin J. Pane announced
the arrest of Justin Suarez, a 27-year old man from New York.
On October 9, 2015, law enforcement in Long Island, NY
issued an arrest warrant charging Suarez with over thirty counts of various
offenses. Some of the offenses include strangulation in the second degree,
harassment in the first degree, coercion in the first degree, rape in the third
degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree as well as other
less violent offenses. The U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive
Task Force developed information that Suarez fled NY and maybe in the Poconos
area of PA. An investigative lead was sent to the Middle District of
Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force to further the investigation.
This morning, deputy marshals and task force members
arrested Suarez in the 1100 block of of Campbell Way, Tobyhanna without
incident. He was turned over to local authorities pending criminal proceedings.
U.S. Marshal Martin Pane said, “Our society must not
tolerate such violence and should be committed to ensuring that dangerous
fugitives are brought before the court. We are committed to ensuring this and
it is my sincere hope this arrest brings the victim some sense of comfort
knowing the alleged attacker is now in custody.”
The USMS worked jointly in this investigation with personnel
from the Pennsylvania State Police, Scranton Police Department, Pocono Mountain
Regional Police Department and Southampton Town Police Department.
