Atlanta, GA – The U.S. Marshals from Northern District of
Georgia, Special Response Team, with the assistance of Customs and Border
Protection, SRT, Georgia State Patrol, Atlanta Police Department, SWAT, Air and
Traffic, and Patrol, as well as the Federal Protective Service, transported
alleged drug lord Edgar “La Barbie” Valdez and Carlos Montemayor to U.S. P.
Atlanta on Friday, October 9.
“A special thanks to all those involved with the high threat
move for their true professionalism; things could not have gone any smoother,”
said Dawn Anderson, Chief for the Northern District of Georgia.
Valdez, a U.S. born former leader of the Beltran Leyva
cartel, and Montemayor were arrested in August 2010 by Mexican authorities. The
two men are charged with conspiring to distribute cocaine and launder money.
They will now face the charges pending against them in the Northern District of
Georgia.
