Portland, Maine:
United States Attorney Halsey B. Frank announced that Keith Phillips,
58, of Lewiston, Maine, was sentenced in U.S. District Court on a charge of
bank robbery. Senior United States District Judge D. Brock Hornby sentenced
Phillips to 70 months in federal prison to be followed by three years of
supervised release. The court also ruled
that Phillips will be ordered to pay restitution to the victim bank. Phillips pleaded guilty to the charge on
December 26, 2018.
According to court records, on June 6, 2018, Phillips entered
Androscoggin Bank in Lewiston, approached a teller, passed a note that
contained a demand for money and a threat of a gun, and absconded with $2,000.
The case was investigated by the Lewiston Police Department;
the FBI; the Southern Maine Gang Task Force, which is comprised of agents and
officers from the FBI; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives;
and the Portland, South Portland, and Lewiston Police Departments; and the
Central Maine Violent Crime Task Force.
