National Incident-Based Reporting System
A video is available about
the FBI National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS). NIBRS was implemented
to improve the overall quality of crime data collected by law enforcement, and
captures details on each single crime incident - as well as on separate
offenses within the same incident - including information on victims, known
offenders, relationships between victims and offenders, arrestees and property
involved in the crimes. The International Association of Chiefs of Police,
Majors Cities Chiefs Association, National Sheriffs Association and the Major
County Sheriff' Association, along with the CJIS Division Advisory Policy
Board, have joined with the FBI to establish the goal of transitioning to a
NIBRS-only crime statistics collection system. To view the NIBRS 101 video, go
