The Carbondale Police Department, the
FBI Denver Division, and other mountain-area law enforcement agencies are
investigating a bank robbery. On May 5, 2012 at approximately 4:00 p.m., the
Wells Fargo Bank Branch located at 1201 Highway 133 in Carbondale, Colorado was
robbed. The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 30 years of
age, 5’7” to 5’8” in height, 150 to 170 pounds, who was possibly wearing a wig
and fake beard. Photos of the suspect are below.
The suspect entered the bank brandishing
a handgun, demanded money, and fled.
This individual is considered armed and
dangerous for his takeover-style bank robbery and may be in possession of
large, black, multi-compartment backpack. The suspect also had a black,
fold-away-type zippered duffel bag slightly larger than a CD carrying case with
a wrap-around zipper. When the bag is expanded, it opens to approximately 18-24
inches in length.
Investigators are asking for the
public’s assistance in identifying this individual from the provided
photographs and would like to remind citizens to be vigilant and report
suspicious behavior around banks to law enforcement.
Bank robbery is punishable by a 20-year
prison sentence for each offense and increases if a dangerous weapon is used in
the commission of the crime.
The FBI continues to provide financial
institutions with the best practices for security to make them less vulnerable
to robberies.
