Buffalo Man Sentenced for Trafficking Marijuana

ROCHESTER, NY—U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that Joseph N. Holman, 32, of Buffalo, New York, who was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute marijuana, was sentenced to 14 months in prison and a $500 fine by U.S. District Judge David G. Larimer.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brett A. Harvey, who handled the case, stated that Holman participated in a marijuana conspiracy with Sean McMorrow and others between 2004 and April 2005. During that time, McMorrow was playing professional hockey for the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League. As part of the conspiracy, Holman possessed and distributed up to 40 kilograms of marijuana (the equivalent of more than 80 pounds). The defendant also recruited and supervised two drug couriers to transport marijuana from Canada into the Western District of New York. In addition, Holman sold quantities of marijuana to others in the Buffalo area.

Sean McMorrow was sentenced to 24 months in prison by Judge Larimer on May 30, 2012.

The conviction was the culmination of an investigation on the part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Christopher M. Piehota.
