Ten-Year Sentence for Virginia Beach Gun Shop Theft Get-Away Driver

Norfolk, Va. — Roshawn D. Turner, 25, of Norfolk, Va., was sentenced today in Norfolk federal court to 10 years in prison for his role in a night-time theft of 27 firearms from the Armory Gun Shop in Virginia Beach, Va.

Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, made the announcement after United States District Judge Mark Davis sentenced Turner on his conviction for stealing, taking, and carrying away firearms. The Court also ordered Turner to pay full restitution and serve three years supervised release following his release from prison. Turner previously pled guilty on June 7, 2010.

According to court documents, two of Turner’s accomplices climbed on to the roof of the Armory and made a hole in the roof, whereupon one of them entered and took the 27 handguns. Turner acted as the get-away driver for the two accomplices. Afterwards, the handguns were sold to individuals in Norfolk and New York. One of the co-conspirators, Delvon Gray, 19, of Norfolk, pled guilty to similar charges in Virginia Beach Circuit Court and is awaiting sentencing. The other alleged co-conspirator, Tehran Townsend, 30, of Norfolk, is awaiting trial on Oct. 26, 2010 before Judge Davis.

This case was investigated by the Virginia Beach and Norfolk Police Departments and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Assistant United States Attorney Kevin M. Comstock prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
