June 1, 2010 - PHILADELPHIA—Dawud Bey, 41, was sentenced today to three years in prison, 18 months consecutive and 18 months concurrent to the 10 years he is already serving, for conspiring with Kaboni Savage and others, charged in a separate indictment, to tamper with witnesses slated to testify against them in a federal narcotics trial, announced United States Attorney Zane David Memeger. Bey pleaded guilty to the charge on March 1, 2010, admitting that he agreed to tamper with witnesses, making multiple attempts to threaten and intimidate them in order to keep them from testifying in federal court. Among the witnesses that Bey admitted to intimidating is Eugene Coleman, whose family was murdered on October 9, 2004, allegedly on the orders of Kaboni Savage. Savage is awaiting trial for those murders and five others.
The case was investigated by the FBI and Philadelphia Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys David E. Troyer and Christine E. Sykes.
