June 10, 2010 - JEFFERSON CITY, MO—Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Fulton, Missouri man was indicted by a federal grand jury today for two bank robberies and an attempted bank robbery.
John David Farnell, 58, of Fulton, was charged in a six-count indictment returned by a federal grand jury in Jefferson City, Mo.
Today’s indictment alleges that Farnell stole $11,540 from Excel Bank in Sedalia, Missouri on Aug. 10, 2009. The indictment also charges Farnell with stealing $3,600 from BTC Bank in Chillicothe, Missouri on Feb. 24, 2010. Farnell is also charged with the attempted robbery of Mid-Missouri Bank in El Dorado Springs, Missouri on April 5, 2010.
In addition to the bank robbery charges, Farnell is charged with three counts of using a firearm in relation to a crime of violence. The indictment alleges that Farnell used a Ruger .357 Magnum revolver to commit each of the three alleged offenses.
Phillips cautioned that the charges contained in this indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Lynn. It was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the police departments of Sedalia, Chillicothe, El Dorado Springs, Rolla, and Cuba, Mo.
