Port Huron, Mich. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers assigned to the Blue Water Bridge seized more than 250,000 tablets of Ecstasy, or MDMA, valued at $4 million on Saturday, June 6.
The seizure resulted in the arrest of a 24-year-old Canadian from Ontario. CBP officers encountered the individual as he applied for admission into the U.S., traveling in a 2004 Volvo truck carrying a shipment of health and beauty products destined for Texas.
CBP officers referred the shipment for an X-ray scan that resulted in an anomaly detected within the trailer. A closer inspection of the trailer led CBP officers to the discovery of several bags of ecstasy commingled with the shipment. The bulk load of Ecstasy weighed a total of 180 pounds and is valued at $4 million.
CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for further investigation. CBP officers seized the Ecstasy and commercial truck.
“This is the largest seizure of ecstasy at the Blue Water Bridge this year,” said Port Director Dave Dusellier. “This is one more example of our officers doing their job with vigilance and professionalism. I commend all of our officers for a job well done.”
