United States Attorney Ron Parsons announced that a Rapid
City, South Dakota, man convicted of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender was
sentenced on March 25, 2020, by Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange, U.S. District
Court.
Daniel Red Horse, Jr., age 49, was sentenced to 33 months in
federal prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release, and a special
assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
Red Horse was indicted by a federal grand jury on August 13,
2019. He pled guilty on January 13,
2020.
Between June 25, 2019, and August 31, 2019, Red Horse, a
person required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and
Notification Act, and a sex offender by reason of a conviction under federal
law for Sexual Abuse of a Minor and Sexual Contact, knowingly failed to
register and update his registration.
This case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals
Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay
Miller prosecuted the case.
Red Horse was immediately turned over to the custody of the
U.S. Marshals Service.
