ALBANY, NEW YORK – John G. Stroming, age 60, of Stuyvesant,
New York, was sentenced today to 35 years in prison for sexually exploiting a
child and possessing child pornography.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Grant C.
Jaquith; James N. Hendricks, Special Agent in Charge of the Albany Field Office
of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); and New York State Police
Superintendent Keith M. Corlett.
Senior United States District Judge Norman A. Mordue ordered
that Stroming’s sentence run consecutive to a state term of imprisonment
Stroming is serving. Today’s federal
sentence should begin in 2027, when Stroming’s state sentence is scheduled to
end.
Stroming was convicted in May 2019 following a 2-day jury
trial. The evidence at trial showed that
Stroming videotaped himself sexually abusing a 19-month-old and that he also
possessed child pornography involving other children. At the time of the crimes, Stroming was
required to register as a sex offender.
He has sex offense convictions including for rape in the second degree
(2011) and promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child (1999).
This case was investigated by the New York State Police and
the FBI, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Katherine Kopita and
Shira C. Hoffman.
