Savannah, GA – A South Florida man wanted by the Ozark
Alabama Police Department for armed robbery was arrested in Garden City,
Georgia by the Savannah Office of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive
Task Force, SCMPD TIU (Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department -
Tactical Investigation Unit) Investigators, and the Garden City Police
Department on August 19, 2014.
Eric Lamont Eutsey, 33, was wanted by the Ozark, Alabama
Police Department for an August 1, 2014 Armed Robbery of a gas station. Eutsey
allegedly robbed the gas station of money and cigarettes and was armed with a
handgun.
The case was referred to the U.S. Marshals Montgomery,
Alabama Office of the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force for assistance in
locating and arresting Eutsey. Gulf Coast Task Force investigators conducted an
extensive investigation and determined that Eutsey fled the area and possibly
went to Savannah, Georgia. It was determined that Eutsey had an associate,
possibly a girlfriend whose parents lived in the Garden City, Georgia area.
This information was then forwarded to the Savannah Marshals Fugitive Task
Force to locate and arrest Eutsey. An investigation was conducted by the
Savannah Marshals Task Force and information was generated that Eutsey was
possibly in the BI-Lo Grocery Store area in Garden City, Georgia. Savannah
Marshals, SCMPD TIU investigators, and Garden City Police Officers went to the
area and located Eutsey sitting on a bench outside the store. Eutsey was
arrested without incident and transported to the Chatham County Detention
Center to await extradition proceedings to send him back to Alabama.
Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals
result in the apprehension of over 36, 000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives
are arrested by the Marshals Service than all other federal agencies combined.
In 2013, U.S. Marshals led task forces arrested more than 10,000 state, local,
and federal fugitives, which cleared over 190,000 warrants.
The Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force has
three offices: Atlanta, Macon, and Savannah. The task force covers the whole
state of Georgia. The Savannah Office of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task
Force is a team comprised of investigators from the Georgia Department of Corrections,
the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department, the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan
Police Department, the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles, the McIntosh
County Sheriff’s Department, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department, the
Bulloch County Sheriff’s Department, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Department,
the Hampton County Sheriff’s Department, and the United States Marshals
Service. The task force objective is to seek out and arrest fugitives charged
with violent crimes, drug crimes, sex offenders, and other felonies.
