Up to $30,000 Reward Announced in Shooting of State Parks Ranger

Public Asked to Phone in Tips to Grand County Sheriff’s Office

Today, the FBI Salt Lake City Division, the United States Marshals Service, and the Utah Department of Natural Resources announced a reward of up to $30,000 for information leading to the apprehension and/or recovery of the person who shot Utah State Parks Ranger Brody Young. Each agency is contributing up to $10,000 toward the $30,000 reward offer. The public is asked to contact the Grand County Sheriff’s Office with tips about the case.

The shooting happened on November 19, 2010 southwest of Moab, Utah. Several law enforcement agencies responded to the area and assisted the Grand County Sheriff’s Office in its search for the suspect, Lance Leeroy Arellano. Arellano remains at-large and should be considered armed and dangerous.

A state arrest warrant has been issued for Arellano. According to the warrant, filed in the Seventh District Court for the State of Utah, Arellano shot Ranger Young multiple times. Arellano faces one count of attempted aggravated murder, a first degree felony.

On the wanted poster (http://www.grandcountysheriff.org/) issued by the Grand County Sheriff’s Office following the incident, Arellano is described as 6’1” tall, weighing 165 pounds, with long black hair and hazel eyes. His date of birth is April 30, 1970.
