Man Sentenced in Wyoming for Transporting Minor for Sex; Extradited to Washington to Face 1980 Statutory Rape Charge

Paul Joe Hanway, 64, of Arapahoe, Wyoming, the former Tribal Health Director for the Northern Arapaho Tribe, was sentenced on January 7, 2010, in federal district court for the District of Wyoming, for one count of interstate transportation of a minor female with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct. Hanway was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment in the Wyoming case.

Following his conviction in the District of Wyoming, Hanway was extradited to King County, Washington on an arrest warrant which had been outstanding since 1980. On July 16, 2010, Hanway was sentenced in King County, Washington for one count of statutory rape in the second degree involving a 1980 incident with a minor female in Seattle, Washington. Hanway pled guilty as part of a plea agreement. Hanway was sentenced to not less than two years but no more than 10 years’ imprisonment, to be served following the completion of his federal prison sentence.
