Carrollton, Texas Man Charged with Child Pornography Violations

PLANO, TX—A 54-year-old Carrollton, Texas man has been indicted on charges of child pornography violations in the Eastern District of Texas announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales today.

Richard Missler was indicted by a federal grand jury on Sept. 8, 2010 and charged with transportation and possession of child pornography and had previously been indicted on a charge of transportation of child pornography. He has previously appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Amos J. Mazzant and has been in custody since June, 2010.

This case is being prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. If convicted, Missler faces up to 20 years for the transportation charge and up to 10 years for the possession charge.

This case is being investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mandy Griffith.
