SAN JUAN, PR—Special Agent in Charge Douglas A. Leff of the
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) San Juan Field Office announced the
arrest of Nyan Oneil Lopez-Perez.
On February 3, 2020, Lopez-Perez was detained by Police of
Puerto Rico (POPR) agents of the Luquillo District, Fajardo Region, at
Luquillo, Puerto Rico, where he was later arrested by FBI agents of the East
Resident Agency of FBI San Juan.
Lopez-Perez was charged under a Complaint with violations of
Title 18, United States Code, Section 2119 (2)—Carjacking with bodily
injury—and Title 18, United States Code, Section 1201(a)(1)—Kidnapping—for
participating in a kidnapping and carjacking which took place in Luquillo on
February 1, 2020. If found guilty, the subject faces a maximum penalty of 25
years in federal prison for carjacking and life imprisonment for kidnapping.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States
Attorney (AUSA) Jennifer Hernández and is being investigated by the FBI.
