PHOENIX, Ariz. –
On November 12, 2019, Cody Mitchell, 28, of Dilkon, Arizona, was sentenced by
Chief U.S. District Judge G. Murray Snow to 57 months in prison followed by 30
years of supervised release. Mitchell
had previously pleaded guilty to one count of Sexual Abuse of a Minor.
Mitchell admitted
that he committed a sexual act against the victim, who was then under the age
of 16 years. The sexual abuse took place
on the Navajo Nation Indian Reservation, where Mitchell and the victim are
members.
The investigation
in this case was conducted by the FBI and the Navajo Nation Department of
Criminal Investigations. The prosecution
was handled by Sharon Sexton and Brian Kasprzyk, Assistant U.S. Attorneys,
District of Arizona, Phoenix
