National Institute of Justice Examines Increase In Homicides



WASHINGTON – The Office of Justice Programs’ National Institute of Justice today published an article online that explores potential explanations for the rapid increase of homicide rates in some U.S. cities. The document considers two possibilities: the expansion in illicit drug markets brought about by the heroin and synthetic opioid epidemic, and de-policing, the intentional reduction in policing by officers.
