U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Arrests Adams County Rape Suspect In Alabama

Harrisburg, PA – Today, U.S. Marshal Martin Pane announced the arrest of Cory Lee Murphy, a 33-year-old man, formerly of Reading Township, Adams County, PA.

On September 15, 2014, the Reading Township Police Department obtained an arrest warrant charging Murphy with Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse with a Child, and lesser included offenses. Investigators learned that Murphy fled the area and asked the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force to apprehend him. Deputy Marshals investigated and learned that Murphy fled to Alabama.

On October 16, members of the USMS Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Murphy without incident in Birmingham, Alabama.

United States Marshal Pane stated, “It is important to bring those charged with serious sex crimes against our children to justice. It is my hope that the victim and family members will find comfort knowing the alleged attacker is now in custody.”

In 2013, the USMS arrested more than 110,000 fugitives wanted for crimes of violence and other felony offenses; including 11,822 fugitives charged with sex crimes.
