Criminal charges were filed today against a Carol Stream man charged with the October 13, 2011 robbery of a Carol Stream, Illinois bank, announced Robert D. Grant, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Kevin Orr, Chief of the Carol Stream Police Department (CSPD).
STEPHEN K. BOLF, age 28, whose last known address was in the 600 block of Gundersen Drive in Carol Stream, Illinois, was charged in a criminal complaint filed earlier today in U.S. District Court in Chicago with one count of bank robbery, which is a felony offense. BOLF was arrested yesterday evening, without incident, by Carol Stream police officers in Carol Stream.
According to the complaint, a lone robber, subsequently identified as BOLF, entered the West Suburban Bank branch, located at 895 E. Geneva Road, Carol Stream, Illinois, and approached a teller. He handed the teller a note announcing a robbery and demanding cash. After receiving over $1,500 in bank funds, the robber fled the bank, walking out of sight of witnesses. No weapon was displayed during the robbery and no injuries were reported.
Subsequent investigation by the FBI and CSPD developed additional evidence linking BOLF to the robbery and resulting in the charges which were filed today. Investigation continues into whether BOLF may have been involved in other bank robberies in the area.
In announcing the charges filed today, Mr. Grant noted the efforts of the Carol Stream Police Department in apprehending a potentially dangerous robbery suspect. Said Mr. Grant, “The cooperation and professionalism displayed in solving this case is another fine example of the joint effort conducted by federal, state, and local law enforcement, which occurs on a daily basis but often goes unnoticed by the public. The residents of Carol Stream should be proud of their police department and the men and women who serve them daily.”
BOLF appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Susan E. Cox in Chicago, earlier today, at which time he was formally charged. BOLF was ordered held without bond, pending his next scheduled court appearance. Until then, he will be held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago. If convicted of the charge filed against him, BOLF faces a possible sentence of up to (20) years’ incarceration.
