SAN DIEGO—A man suspected of robbing several credit unions
between December 2018 and March 2019 was arrested on March 5, 2019, announced
Acting Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Suzanne Turner of the FBI’s San Diego
Field Office and San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit.
Karl Doron, age 44, was charged in a complaint filed
yesterday in San Diego Superior Court with seven counts of bank robbery; two
counts of attempted bank robbery; and one count of carrying a loaded firearm in
a public place.
On March 5, 2019, Doron entered the Navy Federal Credit
Union located at 6755 Mira Mesa Boulevard, demanded and received cash from the
credit union employees. Based on a joint investigation by agents and
detectives, information was developed that identified Doron as the suspect in
several robberies in the San Diego area. As a result, a team of officers and
agents were actively surveilling Doron on March 5th, 2019. Immediately upon
exiting the credit union, Doron was arrested without incident by the law
enforcement team. A search incident to his arrest revealed that Doron was
carrying a loaded handgun.
Doron’s initial appearance is scheduled for March 8, 2019, at
1:30 p.m. in San Diego County Superior Court.
This investigation was conducted by the San Diego PoliceDepartment and the FBI’s Violent Crime Task Force. Significant assistance was
provided by the Chula Vista Police Department.
