Greensboro, NC – On Sept. 14, 2015, at approximately 11:00
am, George Lamont Byrd, 44, was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshals Joint
Fugitive Task (JFTF) out of Greensboro, NC. On Sept. 11, 2015, charges were
taken out on Byrd by the Winston-Salem Police Department. Byrd was charged with
four counts of statutory rape and four counts of indecent liberties with a
child. According to the warrant the alleged offenses took place from June 2003
to June 2004.
Information developed this morning indicated that Byrd was
possibly working in the Colfax area. Investigators verified the information and
Byrd was taken into custody at his place of employment. Byrd was arrested
without incident at Tenn-Tex Plastics located at 8011 National Service Road in
Colfax. Byrd was transported to the Forsyth County Detention Center where he is
currently being held on a $280,000 bond.
The U.S. Marshals Joint Fugitive Task Force for the Middle
District of North Carolina is comprised of investigators from the U.S. Marshals
Service, Chapel Hill Police Department, Durham Police Department, Greensboro
Police Department, High Point Police Department, Winston-Salem Police
Department, Alamance County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina State Highway
Patrol and the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, Department of
Community Corrections – Probation & Parole.
