Henderson, NC - Brad Wesley Chandler, 31, of Henderson, was
arrested today by the Eastern District of North Carolina Violent Fugitive Task
Force. Chandler had been charged in the larceny of thousands of dollars in
iPhones and other electronics from Walmart stores located in Onslow, Randolph,
and Wake Counties, and was a suspect in additional thefts at Walmarts in other
areas of North Carolina, Tennessee and South Carolina.
The Marshals Service began searching for Chandler in early
August when it was learned that he was inadvertently released from the Cherokee
County (GA) Jail, where he was being held under a different name. At the time
of the release, Chandler was also serving a sentence of 5 years as a result of
a conviction for Theft by Taking. As the investigation moved forward,
information began to come in regarding his participation in the thefts from
Walmart stores around North Carolina and surrounding states. Based on the
communication with multiple law enforcement agencies, it was determined that Chandler
was likely in the Henderson area.
At approximately 8:00 a.m. today, Marshals Service personnel
and officers from the Henderson Police Department located and arrested Chandler
at house in the 800 block of State Street. Chandler is currently being held in
the Vance County Jail pending his extradition to Georgia. Participating task
force agencies included the N.C. Department of Public Safety/Security Services,
N.C. State Highway Patrol, and Wilson Police Department.
