United States Attorney Ron Parsons announced that a White
River, South Dakota, man convicted of Abusive Sexual Contact of a Child was
sentenced on June 18, 2019, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange.
Roger Moran, age 66, was sentenced to 186 months in federal
prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release, and a special assessment to
the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.
Moran was indicted by a federal grand jury on August 14,
2018. He pled guilty on March 21, 2019.
The conviction stemmed from incidents that occurred between
February 25, 2014, and August 23, 2018, when Moran knowingly engaged in sexual
contact with a minor female with the intent to abuse, humiliate, harass,
degrade, and arouse or gratify his own sexual desire.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of
Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney
Michael J. Elmore prosecuted the case.
Moran was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S.
Marshals Service.
