U.S. Marshals Arrest Fugitive Wanted for Attempted Murder, Armed Robbery

Milwaukee, WI – Kevin A. Carr, United States Marshal for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, announced the arrest of fugitive Lavonte Conn, who was wanted in Selma, AL for two counts of Attempted Murder and Armed Robbery.

Charges stem from an incident which occurred on April 30, 2014. On that date, Conn approached a vehicle occupied by two individuals, and produced a handgun, demanding everything they had. During the robbery attempt, a struggle ensued, at which time Conn shot the first victim in the back and began fleeing the scene. The driver of the vehicle then exited and gave chase after Conn. During the chase, Conn shot the driver three times, once in the leg, once in the abdominal area, and once in the side. The driver was able to disarm Conn and attempted to fire rounds at Conn, but the firearm was empty, at which time Conn fled the scene. It should be noted that at the time of this incident, Conn was out on bond from a 2012 robbery of a Shell gas station in Selma, AL.

On May 2, 2014, the U.S. Marshals Service, Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, located in Mobile, AL, was requested to assist in trying to locate and apprehend Conn. Investigation revealed that Conn had relatives in the Milwaukee and Chicago area. On May 27, 2014, the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force requested assistance from the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force in the Eastern District of Wisconsin to follow-up with leads in the Milwaukee area. Task force members in Milwaukee were able to identify a potential residence where Conn may be hiding out.

On June 3, 2014, Task Force members set up surveillance at the residence. After several hours, Conn was observed outside of an apartment complex in the area of N. 51st Street and W. North Avenue. Task force members quickly converged on Conn, taking him into custody without incident. Conn was subsequently booked at the Milwaukee County Jail where he awaits extradition back to Selma, AL.
