The San Diego Division of the FBI is among four FBI offices participating in a pilot program to assist our nation’s wounded warriors.
The FBI Wounded Warrior Pilot Program (WWPP) supports Executive Order #13518, Employment of Veterans in the Federal Government; dated November 9, 2009 . The WWPP is a direct veteran recruitment resource, which enables the FBI to identify and assess potential employees from a pool of highly qualified and diverse veterans who possess a wide range of skills and talents.
The FBI will provide career development opportunities for qualified service members recovering from medical procedures. Participating offices will provide meaningful assignments which will enable individuals to build a resume, explore employment interest, develop job skills, and gain valuable federal government work experience. Additionally, the WWPP offers the participant a formal means of transitioning back to the military or civilian workforce.
A participant must be an active-duty service member recovering from a medical procedure and be authorized by the Department of Defense (DoD) to participate in the WWPP. The wounded warrior must be a U.S. citizen and have been adjudicated in a single-scope background investigation or have the ability to secure such adjudication. DoD will certify that they are medically and professionally cleared. The FBI agrees that their work will not interfere with their rehabilitation and medical requirements.
The participant field offices are: San Diego , Washington Field, Sacramento , Charlotte . The FBI’s International Operations Division, Operational Technology Division, and Laboratory are also participating.
On Friday, March 18, 2011 , FBI employees fingerprinted a number of U.S. Marines to facilitate their participation in the FBI Wounded Warrior Pilot Program. It is anticipated that these men will begin their internships within a few weeks.
