David B. Fein, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that DARRYL LEWIS, 55, last residing on Donna Drive in New Haven, was sentenced yesterday, July 8, by Senior United States District Judge Ellen Bree Burns in New Haven to 84 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release. On January 28, 2010, LEWIS pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, 100 grams or more of phencyclidine, also known as “PCP.”
According to court documents and statements made in court, on September 19, 2007, LEWIS distributed between 400 and 700 grams of liquid PCP.
LEWIS has been detained since his arrest on September 25, 2007.
PCP is a highly addictive narcotic that often is manufactured in clandestine drug laboratories. PCP induces severe psychological effects at high doses, including hallucinations, delusions, and paranoia. PCP users often smoke marijuana or tobacco leaves that have been soaked in liquid PCP.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with the assistance of the Hartford Police Department, the New Haven Police Department, the Connecticut State Police and Connecticut Department of Public Safety Toxicology/Controlled Substances Laboratory. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Geoffrey M. Stone.
