ATF’s “Operation Sand Road” Shuts Down Major Organized Firearms and Drug Sales Operation

April 23, 2010 - TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), in a multi-agency investigation, arrested four suspects in Leon County, Fla. for illegal sales of firearms and narcotics. Arrest warrants for four additional suspects have been obtained.

ATF, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) launched a criminal investigation after receiving numerous citizens’ complaints about criminal activity at a residence located on Sand Road. The investigation revealed the residence as a known distribution point for illegal firearms trafficking and narcotics distribution. The two year-long investigation, “Operation Sand Road” resulted in approximately fifty (50) grams of crack cocaine and numerous firearms being seized.

Two ATF fugitives remain at large from this investigation. The fugitives have been federally indicted for being felons in possession of a firearm in violation of 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(1); for knowingly manufacturing, distributing, or dispensing or possessing with intent to manufacture, distribute, or dispense, a controlled substance in violation of 21 U.S.C. 841(a)(1), and for violation of 18 U.S.C 924(c) for possessing a firearm in the furtherance of a drug trafficking offense.
