Collision Yields Discovery of More than Half-Ton of Marijuana

December 31, 2009: U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the McAllen station seized 1,146 pounds of marijuana Wednesday. Agents assisted local authorities at an accident scene yesterday in Palmview, Texas. The accident occurred at the intersection of Business 83 and Showers Road. The driver of one of the vehicles, a Ford F-350 pick-up, fled the scene. Border Patrol agents identified the pick-up as a vehicle involved in a suspected narcotics smuggling attempt. Nearly $1 million worth of marijuana was discovered in the vehicle.

The pick-up, which had been reported stolen, was seized by the Palmview Police Department. The marijuana was seized by agents and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
